The recent news of North Korea making noise for political purposes…..
has brought the Korea’s to the attention of many ordinary Americans. It was interesting how many people have asked me about “how was it in Korea? ” because of my recent visit as if I would come back war weary. My answer is was no different than it was the other half dozen times I have been there. In fact, the pop phenomena Psy and His Gangham Style was having a major concert there while I was there which overshadowed North Korea, This brings to mind one of my favorite satire videos of that insane video by Psy which I am sure you have heard about.
This parody of that was made about the leader of North Korea.
Its would be rather funny……..
if it were not so sad when you consider that conditions in North Korea are probably the worst in the world. While in South Korea it is one of the worlds most prosperous democracies. When you compare and realize North Korea they periodically starve. However , in the South there is not only a lack of starvation, but visible wealth in that on almost every street corner in Seoul ( their largest city) there is a cosmetic or plastic surgeon. I am not joking or exaggerating, and true to my observation Of all the populations in the world, the South Koreans undergo more cosmetic and beauty treatments by far per capita than any other country.

I lectured ….
In fact the very reason I was there was to give my annual lectures at the 26th Korean Society of Aesthetic Surgery in which I speak on Breast Augmentation and Buttock Augmentation. This I have done for the last 4 years , teaching young Korean Cosmetic Surgeons and learning a bit myself. This year there was good attendance from China, Taiwan, Vietnam , Thailand , Japan and other countries as well. I was the only American and I am honored by that. The lectures that were given were very good and there was excellent exchange of information. Some new information and some rehashing or variations of established techniques.

and an excellent self demonstration of result by Dr. Taksayu of his abdominal and chest sculpture he has done using liposuction and fat injection.
There was good food and fun for all as well. I was invited to tour several South Korean Plastic and cosmetic surgeons centers in Seoul. I am always impressed how good so many of my Korean colleagues are as I still recall the days when on the whole they were learning, much like China is advancing today. In fact one Chinese plastic surgeon whose lecture I attended stated that 10 years ago he performed maybe ten breast augmentations per year while this year he performed over 400. The South Koreans have well established themselves these days as very good at the art of aesthetic surgery and have a good reputation in Asia and the Chinese are soon to follow.
While in the states we have been at it more than 50 years , following some of the European surgeons of Switzerland of the 1950’s who had almost secret clinics for the wealthy. Today there is good plastic surgeons world wide including Iran, but ….none in North Korea that I am aware of.
So the Korea trip was fine and a happy one.
