The face lift work shop in Dalian China as you can see from Part 1 was a rather large gathering. The number of Chinese Surgeons was around 120 and there were also some Japanese Surgeons.
When I say it was a big class that is exactly what I mean. I have attended or was an instructor for other facial nerve or face lift dissection workshops in Europe and North America but this was huge by comparison. Typically, such work shops are maybe 20 students or less and maybe two fresh specimens for dissection.
Well like everything else in China I saw this was on a huge scale with about 120 surgeons in attendance.
The picture above shows only partially the amount of people there. You can note me as the one in the brown leather coat looking over one of my students work. There were about 20 fresh specimens for dissection as noted.
I was the only American and the only Caucasian there. This gave me some notoriety among my Asian Collegues in attendance. I was treated very graciously while there and I felt like I was a novelty item. It seemed every surgeon there, wanted his picture with me. It is not that I am egotistic and think there is something special about me, but I know that many wanted pictures with an American Surgeon.
After the workshop was completed there was dinner at one of the local hotels. Ceremonies were conducted by the chief surgeon and professor from Dalian University Hospital and a doctor from the Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) of China. These PLA people were in attendance at the events, well trained , nice appearance and well spoken they appeared to lead the congregation there you might say.
The president and chief physcian at Dalian University Hospital In China spoke at the dinner after the face lift work shop.
Also as mentioned the PLA Doctor spoke while we enjoyed some very good food.
The food was seafood mostly as Dalian China is a port city by the ocean. The food was excellent with about 20 different dishes all served on a rotating server similar to a very large “lazy susan” that we would see in the United states.
The staff at this banquet hall were pleasant and they were efficient making sure all the doctors were taken care of.
Nothing did I find distasteful but I must say I think Chinese food in China is much better than what I have had in the States
Well that is all for now–Doctor808
